Our priority is efficacy. We considered removing sulfate — but after consulting our scientific teams, we concluded that this would have had negative impacts on hair growth: a poorly cleansed scalp accumulates sebum residue, styling products, and pollution, which clogs the follicles and directly hinders hair growth. This was not an acceptable compromise.

The Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) we use is the most effective surfactant for deeply cleansing the scalp. It is precisely because it works well that it contributes to hair growth — and that is why we have kept it.

Its safety is established by the FDA, the European Commission, and all independent scientific committees for rinse-off formulas at standard concentrations. A shampoo is exactly this context: brief contact, thorough rinsing.

Phenoxyethanol is a preservative: without it, any formula containing water would be exposed to the growth of bacteria and mold. It is what guarantees the safety and shelf life of the product.

Our mask contains it at 0.30%—which is three times below the limit authorized by European regulations (1%). At this concentration, in a rinse-off product, the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) considers it safe for all adults.

Manufacturers always use the lowest effective concentration possible to ensure optimal preservation while minimizing exposure. 0.30% is precisely this threshold—sufficient to protect the formula, and well below any cause for concern.

The real concern regarding this ingredient relates to leave-on products that remain on the skin all day. Our mask is a rinse-off product—it is in contact for a few minutes, followed by a complete rinse.

The silicones we use—Dimethicone and Amodimethicone—are among the most effective active ingredients in hair care for three specific properties: shine, softness, and breakage reduction.

Amodimethicone in particular is recognized by formulators for its ability to target damaged areas of the fiber, reduce the force required for detangling by more than 80%, and provide superior light-reflecting properties compared to other conditioning agents. Dimethicone, for its part, creates a coating film that protects the fiber from friction and retains moisture.

Mechanical breakage is one of the most underestimated causes of hair that seems not to grow. These two active ingredients address it directly.

These are rinse-off silicones—designed to be rinsed out, not to remain on the fiber or the scalp. Yuka rates all silicones the same way without making this distinction. A properly rinsed silicone does not build up and does not clog follicles.
